Quality

Milled with science. Trusted by farmers.

Quality is not a slogan on a bag — it is a set of checks that happen before, during and after milling. Here is what we control and why each step matters.

In short

Vital Feeds controls quality at three points: incoming maize and soybean meal are lab-tested before entering the mill, mixing and pelleting are controlled so every bag carries the same nutrition, and finished feed is batch-coded so any bag can be traced back to its production batch.

What We Control

Four controls, start to finish.

Quality is a set of checks, not a claim on the bag.

Lab-Tested Raw Materials

Every incoming lot is checked before it enters the mill — protein, moisture and purity.

Balanced Formulations

Rations designed for the species and the stage, not a single general-purpose mix.

Uniform Pelleting

Consistent particle size and pellet durability, so animals cannot feed selectively.

Batch Coding

Finished feed is coded and traceable back to the batch it was made in.

The three places feed quality is lost

Before the mill — raw material

This is where most quality problems are born. Wet maize grows mould. Soybean meal varies in protein. Adulterated ingredients look fine in a bag and destroy performance in a shed. Once a bad lot is inside the mill and mixed, it cannot be separated out. Testing at intake is the only cheap control point.

Inside the mill — mixing and pelleting

Vitamins and trace minerals are included in very small quantities. If mixing is not thorough, some bags carry far more than intended and others almost none — and nothing on the outside of the bag reveals it. Pelleting matters for the same practical reason: a durable pellet stops the animal choosing the tasty parts and leaving the rest.

After the mill — storage

Feed keeps changing after it leaves us. Bags stacked against a damp wall absorb moisture and grow mould. Feed stored in direct sun degrades vitamins. Old stock fed after fresh stock loses nutritional value. Store bags off the floor, away from walls, in a dry ventilated room, and use oldest stock first.

What we ask customers to check on delivery

  • Pellets are firm, not crumbling into powder at the bottom of the bag.
  • Smell is fresh and grain-like — never musty, sour or mouldy.
  • Colour and texture are consistent through the bag.
  • The batch code is visible, so any question can be traced.

If anything looks wrong, contact us with the batch code before feeding it.

Questions

Common questions

Do you test raw materials before milling?
Yes. Incoming lots of maize, soybean meal and other raw materials are inspected and lab-tested before they enter the mill.
Can a bag be traced back to its production batch?
Yes. Finished feed is batch-coded, so any bag can be traced back to the batch it was produced in.
Why does pellet quality matter?
Poor pellets break down into fines. Animals then eat selectively, intake falls and feed is wasted, which raises the real cost per kilogram of gain or milk.
