This broiler feed calculator shows how many kg and bags of starter, grower and finisher feed your flock needs: enter your number of chicks, selling age and bag size. A second tool checks your feed conversion ratio (FCR) against the published Ross 308 targets.
Enter the number of chicks and the selling age to see feed per bird, total feed and bags of starter, grower and finisher. The figures come from Aviagen's Ross 308 Performance Objectives 2022: about 3.2 kg of feed per bird to day 35 and 4.6 kg to day 42. A second calculator works out your flock's FCR and compares it with the Ross target.
This free tool does two jobs. First, it works out how much starter, grower and finisher feed a broiler flock needs, in kilograms and in bags. Second, it works out your flock’s feed conversion ratio (FCR) and compares it with the breed target. All targets come from the published Ross 308 performance objectives, so you can check every number yourself.

Enter the number of chicks, the age you plan to sell at, your bag size and a small extra for waste. The answer updates as you type.
FCR is the feed used divided by the live weight sold. A lower number means less feed for each kilogram of bird. Enter your figures at the end of the flock:
A farmer places 1,000 chicks, plans to sell at day 35, buys 50 kg bags and adds 5% for waste.
| Stage | Ross 308 feed per bird | 1,000 birds + 5% | Bags of 50 kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter (day 0–10) | 297 g | 297 kg × 1.05 = 311.85 kg | 6.24 → 7 |
| Grower (day 11–24) | 1,505 − 297 = 1,208 g | 1,208 kg × 1.05 = 1,268.4 kg | 25.37 → 26 |
| Finisher (day 25–35) | 3,211 − 1,505 = 1,706 g | 1,706 kg × 1.05 = 1,791.3 kg | 35.83 → 36 |
| Total | 3,211 g | 3,371.55 kg | 69 bags |
For FCR: the same farmer had 70 bags delivered and 2 left over, so the flock used 68 × 50 = 3,400 kg of feed. The birds sold for 2,150 kg live weight. FCR = 3,400 ÷ 2,150 = 1.58. The Ross 308 target at day 35 is 3,211 ÷ 2,296 = 1.40. At the target FCR, 2,150 kg of bird would need about 1.399 × 2,150 = 3,008 kg of feed, so this flock used about 392 kg more. Our guide on how to reduce FCR in broilers shows where that feed usually goes.
These are the as-hatched (mixed male and female) figures from Aviagen’s Ross 308 Performance Objectives 2022. Feed is per living bird. The calculator uses the full day-by-day table from day 1 to day 56; this is a weekly summary.

Aviagen notes that the table values are rounded, so small differences can appear when you calculate from them. Stage timing is from the Ross Broiler Pocket Guide (Aviagen, 2025).
Weigh a sample of birds every week and compare them with our broiler weight chart. For the day-by-day intake and how feeders affect it, read how much feed a broiler eats. If birds look sick, call your vet before you change the feed.
